Social Isolation With Your Dog

We understand that many of us in the Hoboken community and around the world are staying home and practicing social distancing. This dramatic shift in our normal day-to-day schedules can affect our mental health, relationships, and of course, we can’t forget our pups! During this extra time in confined spaces, we put together a list of things to do with your dog during the isolation period. It will help stimulate your dog’s mind while keeping them busy and happy - all while hopefully helping them (and you) from going stir crazy.

  1. Loose Leash Training: since the streets are not as crowded anymore, it’s a great time to practice loose leash walking skills with your pup. Less people out means less distractions; which can be great not only for puppies, but leash-reactive dogs.

  2. Mental Enrichment Exercises: not only will these activities keep your dog occupied (and eventually tire them out), they also help to strengthen your bond. There are some that you can make on your own by being a little creative (i.e. think about reusing an Amazon box + some kibble) or others you can purchase to support your local pet store.

  3. Cuddles, Cuddles, and Cuddles: This time period can take a big toll on our emotions. Just like humans crave and need physical touch, so do our animal lovebugs. So take this extra time to comfort each other and soak up those extra snuggles together.

Want full tutorials for training activities like Loose Leash Training and Mental Enrichment Exercises? Individual Walk & Train sessions (with zero owner contact) can be arranged. Let me come pick up your pet with my own leash for private specialized sessions. Additionally, while in-person sessions with owners are currently postponed during the health crisis, many of these skills can be shared via video conference.
